Any person thirty five years or older who has recently walked past a group of middle school or high school girls has probably seen more waist and hip skin than they ever imagined on a 12 year old, more cleavage than they thought possible on a 15 year old, and more belly buttons than a Beyonce' video. The trends and fashion statements that are "in style" with pre-teens and teens today would have earned women who are in their mid thirties a suspension from school for inappropriate dressing.
But it isn't the fashions themselves that have me frustrated. It is the fact that through wearing some of these items at such an early age, young girls are not learning what comfortable clothing feels like, they're not learning how to not feel objectified by their dress, and they're not learning how to present their individuality outside of these trends. My ten year old daughter taught me how cruel teen girl fashions have become.
Last year, in the beginning of my daughter's 5th grade school year, she was wearing the low waist jeans. I'd be in the kitchen cooking dinner and she'd sit down and do her homework. As I walked past, I'd notice more backside than waist was in full view. I'd tell her, "Pull your pants up. Nobody wants to see where the sun doesn't shine." The next day, she'd have on a different pair of jeans, she'd sit down and again, I'm seeing the top of her gluteus maximus where some fabric should have been. I didn't recall buying all these low waist pants. When we were in the department store it seemed that the pants covered her bottom, but now it seemed every time I walked by I was getting mooned. For the next couple of weeks, I must have sounded like the booty crack monitor because I was telling my daughter to pull up her pants like every five minutes. Finally, I became so angry I asked her where were her underpants. Defensively, she told me, "I have on underwear." Well, an argument ensued because if my pants fell below my waist you'd see cotton bloomers before you'd see my naked skin. Why weren't my daughter's undies protecting her?
My daughter and I went upstairs and talked and she showed me that she did indeed have on her underwear, but she'd begun to fold over the top of her underwear because she'd learned in school that you shouldn't let people see your underwear if you have on low rise pants. What was worse is that she'd kept wearing underwear that were too small to achieve the "look." How cruel is that? Without my knowledge my daughter was learning to sacrifice comfortable underwear for small ones for the sake of fashion. I couldn't understand it, and I knew too small underwear would be uncomfortable for me as well as wearing jeans that allowed my backside to be exposed at the slightest bend. Yet, whenever I would tell my daughter to pull up her jeans, she didn't seem embarrassed, or particularly bothered. It appeared that showing more flesh than desired was all a part of wearing the fashion and so it wasn't a "big deal."
As a youth program specialist, I get the opportunity to work with teen girls all across the country. Over the past five years, I've witnessed some shocking fashions but the one that disappoints me the most is the "too short skirt." The too short skirt is the skirt that looks like a small handkerchief is wrapped around the waist. The too short skirt is the skirt that the girl wears and has to put her notebook, purse, backpack or papers on her thighs so that we don't see her undergarments. How comfortable can it be to sit in a workshop and have to cover your thighs for an hour? How comfortable can it be to know that you can't bend over and pick up anything because your private area will be exposed? What if somebody dropped a million dollars in front of the girl in a too short skirt? She wouldn't even be able to become a millionaire without losing her dignity. The Too Short Skirt teen fashion trend is far too cruel.
The low waist jeans and the too short skirts are just two of the youth fashions that are being passed off as cool, but really aren't. The other really cruel teen fashion is the too short shorts. These are the gym shorts that people in their thirties used to wear with the drawstring tie in the front. Well, girls of today are turning over the tops of the shorts and pulling them up like a pair of stockings. Not only do these short shorts look ridiculous, they look impossibly uncomfortable. Yet, millions of girls are flipping down the waistbands of their shorts to look like the girl sitting next to them. Needless to say, the elastic waistband is really helpful for girls with larger bellies. The elastic band keeps the tummy in and makes the girl look slimmer. But, unfortunately, the girl who really wants to keep her elastic waistband in tact isn't doing so because she feels the pressure to fit in with all the girls who wear the turn down waist. It's cruel.
I never thought cruel fashions could impact a girl's self esteem, but so many girls are now suffering because they're wearing clothes that make them feel bad about how they look. Historically, youth fashion trends gave youth a definitive and creative voice. But for the life of me, I can't figure out what low waist, short skirts and short shorts are saying about our teen girls. Or maybe I refuse to hear what those fashion trends are saying because it's just too cruel.

5. Think Positively
Instead of thinking of disastrous outcomes, try replacing them with amazing outcomes. Imagine people approaching you after your speech to congratulate you. Imagine your date being enraptured by you. Picture yourself laughing, smiling, acting confidently. And really FEEL HOW IT FEELS to act this way.
The more you practice the easier this becomes and your subconscious will actually make it a reality for you. If you dwell on a positive outcome then you'll be surprised how often your wishes come true.
Keep practising every day to change your mindset.
6. Just do it!
I once read a great book called, Feel the Fear and do it Anyway! It basically says that everyone gets nervous at various points in their lives. But the difference is that the people who are most successful, simply plough on in spite of their worries.
It's simply a question of disregarding your negative mind, saying 'I hear what you're saying, but I don't think you're steering me right'. By constantly exposing yourself to situations you normally avoid, you eventually become immune to them. Try it - it's scary at first but the effects can be astounding.

I am a recovering worrier. That's it, my secret is out. For people that have been near and dear to me all my life, I am sure it isn't much of a secret.
I believe that I am at least 2nd if not 3rd generation worry wart. I was raised in a family that worrying was name of the game. Something was wrong if we didn't have something to worry about. Not only did we worry, we obsessed on our worries. As a child, I worried about whether people liked me. I convinced myself that they didn't. I worried about school. The list goes on and on. I worried about everything so much I was always sick and stressed out. Maybe, you can relate.
As I became an adult and had children of my own, I really didn't want them to follow in my footsteps of being a worrier. I really wanted to break the cycle. I began to try to hide my addiction to worry. By that time, I was fully entrenched in my usual worry haunts. Sometimes, life would throw something new in the pot for me to worry about, but if I didn't have enough, I could always bring out my "old worries" and have enough material to keep myself occupied for days!
I want to share 7 tips that have helped me to break the worrying habit.
1. I finally came to the conclusion that worrying was stealing my happiness. That realization made me mad. I wanted to be happy, dadgummit! I made a conscious effort to learn more about why I worried. I discovered that worrying can come from feelings of unworthiness. I began to read self improvement. I found out all sorts of information. One of which is, "what we focus on grows." Ouch! That one really hit close to home. I am always working on improving my self image through self improvement and that has helped with my worrying habit.
2. People who worry are under the impression that worrying serves a purpose. One of my dear friends always tells me, "if I worry about it, if something happens, I'll be prepared and it won't be so bad". If you believe that worrying serves a purpose you will never stop. You need to discover what purpose your worrying serves.
3. Clarity is an issue with all worrying. Most of the time, we are completely unaware of what is really bothering us. We could be using worry as a way of projecting our uneasiness. The best way to get clear is to write our worries down. Sometimes, when I write my worries down, I look at that worry and say, "well that's dumb. Why should I worry about that?" When you have written your worries down, fold them up and put them in a jar on the top shelf of the closet. Let yourself know that it is OK to worry about those things....later. You can then pick the appropriate time to take your jar down, read your worries, worry about that stuff for 10 minutes and then put the jar back. As worries come up feel free to jot them down and put them in your worry jar. If you start to worry and it is not "your chosen time" remind yourself of your predetermined appointment to worry. As Scarlet O'Hara said in Gone With The Wind, "I can't think about that right now. If I do, I'll go crazy. I'll think about that tomorrow." I have found out that I forget to get my jar down and worry.
4. A human brain is incapable of negative and positive thoughts at the same time. Try it. You will either go negative or you will go positive. The best way to go positive is to count your blessings. I know that sounds hokey, but it works. Gratitude is an amazing mood lifter!
5. Worrying is a thought pattern. The good way to break that pattern is to keep yourself busy and active. It is hard to fit worrying in if you are busy. It is, also, important to stay in the "now". Worrying comes from projecting into the future what you think might happen. In the "now" you are OK and safe.
6. Don't be afraid of the unknown. People always equate the unknown with uncertainty and a negative outcome. Accept that you don't know the outcome. Focus on what you can control. My grandmother, who resided on the other side of the family from the worriers, always would ask me when I worried, "Can you change it? If you can't change it, you can't worry about it." That always gave me hope and some clarity. It is useless to worry about something that is out of your control. Remember as the bible says, "This too shall pass." That quote has always given me comfort.
7. When I have been in a "crisis mode" with my worrying, my heart beats faster, my stomach gets upset, my chest tightens up and I can reach a full blown panic attack. I don't know if you can relate to that. Anxiety for long periods of time can threaten our long term health. I have found that the Sedona Method gives me release from my panic attack.  and get a free DVD that explains the method. In a nutshell, you can ask yourself 3 questions. "Could I let this go?" Wait for answer. "Would I let this go?" Wait for answer, and "When?", again, wait for answer. That technique settles me right down and I can feel the anxiety lift. I also get relief from "full crisis mode" by sitting quietly and listening to a guided mediation. I use guided meditations because I have trouble when I have been in "crisis worry mode" to stop thinking my thoughts. I needed the distraction of the guided part of the meditation.
As you can see, I have given worrying a lot of thought. I have even worried about worrying. All of the above are tested and proven true by yours truly....me. I fall off the wagon occasionally and start to worry, but one or more above methods come to my rescue every time. It has become easier to leave that destructive thought pattern behind and I am enjoying exploring my happiness more and more.

Break it up into three or four 15-minute workout instead. This keeps your metabolism from slowing down after you've exercised and it's easier for you to keep up with your exercise each day. Even getting up out of your chair and doing some squats every hour or during commercial breaks can help keep you heart pumping and your body burning calories at an accelerated rate.
These quick weight loss tips are all good suggestions and there are tons more a person can do to improve their health and balance their weight. However they won't do much for you if you don't apply them to your daily routine. Remember it takes sacrifice and dedication. The life style we live is what makes us what we are and if we keep doing the same things we used to and not add in something different then we are never going to change the things we want.

Constantly examine and challenge your assumptions. This allows you to think deeper and see things more clearly, especially, from the perspective of others.
